Abandoning Bishops

salon.jpgTalk about a fantastic business model for a salon, Bishops was brilliant. I only wish I had the foresight to think of such a thing.

Bishops - It was the talk of the town. You could enter, sign your name, have a beer, listen to real rock music, look at hipster mags and be enveloped in all sorts of taboo imagery. Yes, this is no place for the Cleavers or any wholesome family seeking an economical quick haircut for the kids. You won’t see any kid car chairs here. What you will see is maybe a hipster or two, even three, a guy with a fohawk, girl with purple hair and lots of piercings accompanied by fresh laden tattoos.

It’s a great place for a no nonsense, cheap, quick haircut, but for someone who does tend to pay special attention to style and color of hair, such as moi, I’m just about tired of having to correct everything that tends to go wrong three + days post hair do done at Bishops.

I usually recieve glowing compliments about my hair, the color, the cut… well it’s just been over the last year that, well the cut and color is great upon exiting the salon, but leave it to me to try to re-create the wonders they performed on my coiff… well forget it. I don’t have that kind of time, incredible contortionability or patience anymore.

So, today was my breaking point. I needed a freshening of color and my roots, with some GRAY was showing and well we just cannot have that, so I enlisted a dear acquaintance from the Goose, in fact, to work her magic on my hair. I was torn. Do I go back to Bishops and risk the two week later results only to go back to get it fixed or do I just plain nip it in the bud.

It was a hard decision and I had to give up the opportunity for a free beer, but at least I got an appt. toute suite and the care that was given to my noggin… priceless.

Discoveries included, the past Bishops employee put BLACK color on my hair AND they did a chunky application of colors which only resulted in a leopard like pattern on the back of my head, which since it was hidden from view, I paid no notice. God help me today. Sweet J was my savior.

Step One: Bleach, lighten it up, pull out some of that black. Step 2: Some kind of toner all over the head to even out the tone. Step 3: All over application of one color that was a mix of some codes that to me just looked like brown and red.

Results: Gorgeous, deep red tones and brown base. Phew, Love it. Next time- J said I must return to her as the Black will need to just grow out and we’ll keep a standard on ensuring the roots get touched up without continuing to bring color through to the ends so I don’t look like a two toned imbecile.

Okay so I’m pleased. Pleased to have quality hair done at a quality price with a person who apprenticed at a salon for 3+ years versus being thrown into the world of professionals with maybe just hours of real practice.

Au revior dear Bishops. You were good when it was consistent but with growth and aspirations to expand your salon scope which includes a Bishops Salon in the Pearl, which really negates all reputation you once established, since I thought you were really this rebellious anti-establishment, I must recognize when it is time to move on and say good-bye and good luck!

Yours truly-

Ah Love my hair just after a salon visit. There is just nothing quite like it!
