Diving back into work and vacation highlights

Saturday, June 7th, 2008 | General | No Comments

backtowork.jpgSo work immediately went into full swing when I showed up on Thursday, after oh about 20 hours of traveling or so the day before.

Apparently my colleague who went to Mexico for her vacation got a serious, serious case of monteszuma’s revenge. This only provides more ammunition for why I really have no interest in going to Mexico at all.

Anyway, needless to say it was time to whip out my fire extinquisher and begin the dousing process. So clocking in 10 hours straight on Thursday and Friday, I was more than ready for the weekend. Nevermind jetlag kicked my butt, but the sleeping and relaxing over that first weekend back… priceless.

So here is my version of our vacation- Feel free to take a look on Picasa.

Bruges - Beautiful, enchanting, romantic, relaxing… simply wonderful. “It’s like a fu*#@ing fairy tale” as they say in the movie.

Brussels - Completely opposite. Bustling, dirty, graffiti, lots and lots of French spoken, limited English. There were pockets of charm and some really fantastic museums. Some of the people we encountered were quite friendly and we found our favorite watering holes that we returned to often, which is always important.

Amsterdam - What more can I say then… relaxed. Hotel was awesome, people… awesome and we did lots and lots of walking. I enjoyed seeing the Rijksmuseum again and thoroughly enjoyed seeing Rembrandt’s huis. Really a great and fantastic way to end the trip.

So here are some photo highlights that I particularly enjoyed taking:

Our Favorite Beer in Bruges - Brugse Zot - I think we consumed enough to keep them brewing for years to come.

One of my favorite signs- LOOKOUT!

I loved this children’s store in Brussels- their windows were decorated adorably, the dollhouse was cute.

They love their dogs in Brussels - A local dog shop, but not like any other.

Well, those are all I have time for today.

I’m going to visit with Ryan’s g-ma today and wish her a happy birthday. I believe today is her 87th birthday? She’s a trooper and a precious lady and time is too short to miss out on celebrating that milestone.

I hope to catch Sex & The City today as well. Everyone or mostly the female colleagues I’ve been around have seen it and keep talking about it, so I must, must see it soon! :)

Cheers.

Too Cold to be June

Saturday, June 7th, 2008 | General | No Comments

cold.jpgIt’s really just a shame. It’s too darn cold to be June.

It was wonderful coming back to a blooming back/front yard. Our Peonies are blooming and everything we nervously hacked back this winter is coming back full and beautiful. It really is inspiring to see so little effort produce such magnificent results.

Although Ry had a forest to mow upon his last days of freedom after vacation.
It’s still, too cold to be June.

It’s supposed to remain in the 50’s - 60’s for the next few weeks too.

So, I guess it’s good for me as I don’t have to swap my closet out for summer yet and can still flop around in jeans and sweaters. I’m still looking forward to some sun though, at least to give us the inclining that it indeed is spring/ summer.
