So work has kept life interesting. In fact we partook in a Single Malt Scotch Sampling on Monday at our PR team meeting.

I actually enjoyed sipping on the three scotch whiskey’s my colleague chose to have us sample.

What is amazing is the deep appreciation and detail my colleague went into to describe the unique characteristics in each kind.

While a larger portion of the PR team couldn’t take the heat, I for one surprised myself.

My favorite actually turned out to be the Glenlivet.

The history of scotch is really quite fascinating, like wine it gets more refined as it ages. Scotch is made up of three simple ingredients: Barley, yeast, and water.
By law all Scotch whiskey must be aged for a minimum of three years in oak casks in Scotland; though many single malts are matured for much longer. The whiskey continues to develop and change as it spends time in the wood.

The three we tried were

Glenlivet from Speyside - my favorite

Glenmorangie from the Highlands - 3rd favorite -apparently this particular Scotch is aged in ruby port oak casks from Portugal.

Laphroaig from Islay - 2nd favorite- This would be perfect on a winter’s evening with a fireplace burning, surrounded by book shelves ten feet tall in a huge leather chair. Yes, it smells of the elements in which it was produced from, the smoke of peet and brisk cool air, one sip of this and the belly has ascended into a warm fuzzy numbness we all look for when the temperature turns south. Awesome.

So , there you have it. A girls nose and palate notes on single malt scotches, a novice in some respect but a seasoned appreciator of wine, beer and spirits.

“Just a wee dram of your finest please” :)

Dammit, I’m in the wrong profession. Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong. How well aged were the samples you had? I ask because I would probably have rated Glenmorangie highest myself, but that would depend as the only Glenmorangie I’ve had was the 18.

So shall I bring over my 18-year-old Glenlivet whenever we come visit you guys next? :)
