aging gracefully or just feeling my age.

Not like aged in a fine wine sense.
Or, aged like a nice artisan cheese.
No, this lady is just plain feeling her age.
The last week has been relatively eventful. Went to Happy Hour on Monday the 21st at Higgins with a work colleague. The wine and chevre was especially delicious. Higgins is a fantastic classic bar and fabulous for happy hour.
Went to see Hot Chip on Wed. Enjoyed a few wonderful pints of Liquid Friend at Ringlers. So incredibly delicious. I got to cut the rug up with the young dancers out on the field of Crystal. They were brilliant and I just got to a point where I really wanted to dance and Hot Chip was the perfect band to get some good fun big dance moves a going. It was fantastic. I felt 20 something again, but yet felt my age the next day
Considering I only got 4 hours of sleep, I did pretty okay, considering, on Thursday.
Saturday we enjoyed an outdoor birthday gathering and I came home a little too drunk and smelled of campfire. Unfortunately my imbibing left me just worthless on Sunday. The day was gorgeous on Saturday and luckily I got in a nice over hour run and took advantage of the day which let me be okay with being a big couch potatoe on Sunday.
Today I went to happy hour with another colleague. The first plan was to hit Siam Society. We show up and “oops” it’s closed on Mondays. Same with Bernies and Lolo. Crazy. So we hit Kennedy School.
I am trying to integrate myself into the “culture” of my new firm and so meeting for happy hour seems to be the right kind of motivation for my work colleagues. We had the crab pot fondue which is just about heavenly! YUM.
My violin teacher is due anyday now and was required to be seated to teach violin last week. This week she’s been restricted to full on bed rest for the rest of her pregnancy. So no violin now for a few weeks, which works out well considering May will be full of traveling frolicking fun for us, so that’s fine.
I will be sure to be ready for vacation as in not having any work or school looming over my head. But the biggest shadow looming overhead for me right now is this next birthday.
This year is pivotal in a woman’s life. What I cannot believe is how quickly it came up on me. I always looked at 35 as that age… one day… I’ll have it all together at 35, I’ll know exactly what to expect and I’ll have the rest of my life mapped out and everything will be perfect. Shaaa. yeah in the ideal world.
While I continue to see friends having babies I see friends going through separations and even seeing friends with babies go through separations. Actually alot of the friends who have had babies I don’t see much anymore and that’s not anything but that the introduction of a new being into the mix really changes your whole perspective and every moment and I mean second is consumed by this entity.
In the office I feel like an old hen. I give the positive feedback, recognizing the cultural differences between my previous corporate world of work and adjusting to the non-corporate world of now and relating to and understanding has been the biggest growing and learning aspects of this role. Hence the happy hour meetings with colleagues.
So, this week marks the significance of the MBA I worked for. I get my cap and gown and tickets tomorrow. It’s seems so far now, I’ve almost forgotten its significance. My mom received her masters when I was little. I honestly don’t know how she managed with my sister and I as little ones and she worked as a teacher AND persued her Master’s. It’s pretty amazing to note her dedication and drive. I wonder, that must be where I get it from.
Well, I’m recognizing this year is a pivotal year and it’s going to be tough, but I will pull through, I’ll look forward to the next adventure that lies ahead, I’m just glad I have someone like Ry to share it with.
