Dinner is Golden

Okay, so yesterday awoke to allergies and then ate a grapefruit, broke out into a rash. My sweet mother had a mild panick attack, went to Walgreens, got Benadryl…. all is normal now.
Ventured to the mall on a Benadryl high that swiftly kicked my butt and so meandering through the mall with a sort of hangover headache and drowsy eyes…well the best panacea I could see was a nice big cup of coffee from the Paradise Bakery. I think a mall isn’t a mall unless there’s a Paradise Bakery (Oh and a Cinnabon).
That helped. Mom shopped till she dropped, picked up new pants, bedding and of course we had to stop into Borders (she had a discount card). I swear this was the Wal-Mart of Borders. HUGE. The Mall was Huge. I guess the name of the mall really reinforces that as it is called the “SUPERstition Springs Mall”. More like the “SuperSize me of Malls”.
Anyway. Then back to home. Then I treated mom and Barb out for Mexican food. Authentic mexican? NO, not quite… Garcia’s. The chain of all chains in Az and other places for mexican food. Which is fine with me because I had probably the best Margarita I have ever had. That made the meal for me!
Well we started with Nachos (about as big as a 15th century soup terrain). Nevermind we already had a massive bowl of tortilla chips with salsa on the table, include the nachos and then it just feels like gluttony at that point. But to add to that, I ordered the taco salad. I think the tortilla bowl itself could hold two of my heads. I ate maybe 1/4 of it and took the rest for lunch today.
Which leads me to today. I slept much better after moving a ticking clock out of the gallery I am sleeping in. We headed to the 10:30am showing of A Golden Compass. I think this is the first before 1pm movie I have seen in my life and it was glorious. Only about 7 other people in the theatre.
The Golden Compass was beautiful, enchanting and fun! It captured my imagination fully and I started to imagine what my Deamon might be. I wholeheartedly recommend this film. Especially in the theatre. The CG was captivating and I had no qualms with talking bears. Who would, becaus when Ian McKellan’s voice bellows from the belly of the bear, there’s no question that your attention is captured.
The young actress is incredible. She has charisma and strength of character that I admire being displayed in a young feminine role. She is inspiring. I especially love it when she’s talking to a friend and he tells her she’s a lady and she says, “Take that back… I am NOT a Lady”.
I loved it as much as Stardust and cannot wait to see the 2nd film. They ended it perfectly and it will pick up quickly where it left off.
It’s a must see. If you can get to the theatre by 10:30, I say GO! But if you can’t then just wait till the last showing of the day, especially if you prefer a child free zone or mostly child free zone.

I’m even more looking forward to seeing Golden Compass now… well, once I finish reading the book, halfway through now.
