My Holiday Movie Must See’s
Monday, December 10th, 2007 | Holiday
Movies can sometimes enrich the experience of our own lives by carrying us through the journey of others, either based on true stories or fiction. We can all be inspired to dream and imagine or sit in awe through the eyes of others.
I especially love holiday movies because they fortify the spirit of the season for me and remind me that each of us has a story to share for others.
These are not necessarily listed as my top favorite to least, they all have equal weight in value at their moments. So I have merely started with those that were my childhood favorites and progressed from there.
Please feel free to add/ if I missed any that you find especially inspiring for the Holidays.
- It’s a Wonderful Life - Love that Jimmie Stewart
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas- The 1966 version with Boris Karloff
- The Charlie Brown Christmas - This always puts me into the spirit!
- The Best Christmas Pageant Ever - For any child required to be in a church’s Christmas play - This one’s for you!
- Miracle on 34th Street - The black & white original 1947 with Maureen O’Hara
- Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer - The 1964 version with Burl Ives
- Twas the Night Before Christmas- 1974
- Santa Clause is Coming to Town - 1970- Love that Fred Astair as the Narrator
- Frosty the Snowman - 1969- Jimmy Durante made this animated classic
- A Christmas Carol - Original Black & White 1938 version or 1951 version
- White Christmas - 1954 Bing Crosby sings those carols with serious soul
- The Bishops Wife - 1947- Cary Grant (be still my beating heart)
- A Christmas Story - Who doesn’t quote this during the holidays “you’ll shoot your eye out kid”
- Edward Scissorhands- Mmmmm Johnnie Depp
- The Ref - I fell in love with Kevin Spacey & Denis Leary in this hilarious holiday treat
- Sleepless in Seattle - not all holiday encompassing- however, still love it for the holidays
- Auntie Mame - Another one where the movie isn’t centered around the holidays, but invokes the spirit
- Trading Places - A definite quick education on the volatility of the stock market
- Christmas Vacation- Who doesn’t watch this during the holidays
- Christmas in Conneticut- 1945 version with that sensationally compelling Barbara Stanwyck
There it is… my personal holiday movie favorites. I know I’m missing some so please feel free to add, it’s all about getting into the spirit of the season!
Happy Watching!

What, no “Muppet Christmas Carol”? Tsk, tsk…
Kermit the Frog: If you please Mr. Scrooge, it’s gotten colder and the bookkeeping staff would like an extra shovel full of coal for the fire.
Rat #1: All of your pens have turned to inkcicles.
Rat #2: Our assets are frozen.
Ebenezer Scrooge: How would the bookkeeping staff like to be suddenly… UNEMPLOYED?!
Rats: [singing] HEAT WAVE! This is my island in the sun…
