Corporate Capitalism Taking Control

piano.jpgI’ve been and will continue to grow ever disappointed in Nordstrom’s. The once espoused charming sounds of the tapping of the ivories to enhance a mood induced atmosphere for shoppers has now been flushed down the prime porcelain toilet. In exchange for the usual department store elevator crap that gets wafted through the air to annoy shoppers….well me, really.

Here is the official story in the Oregonian. This is a mere case of greed. The musician’s cost Nordy’s $12-$15 an hour. Oh my gosh, that’s highway robbery! NO it’s a value within a business model that helps them outshine the competition.

The first case study I read for the MBA was Nordstrom’s , in fact a huge piece of their “business culture and luring clientele” was partly due to the piano players in all of the stores.

I HAVE A SOLUTION!

Keep the piano’s and offer it to High School and College piano students to perform their latest achievements on for all to hear, or at least a few shoppers. :) NO COST.

Keep the Piano’s and offer it to pianist’s in the local area that would appreciate volunteering for this job. FREE.

Who doesn’t love the live sound of a piano. Well, I know it’s a blanket generalization and typically when they started playing off Captain and Tennille tunes I tended to run out ASAP. BUT, it would be a way to keep the enchanting and mood enhancing atmosphere to keep people shopping and spending their well earned or trust inherited $$’s.

So there’s my solution, but we know how our capitalistic corporations get when times aren’t especially outstandingly profitable.

So, next time you are in Nordstrom’s if that was ever before or even now, breathe in the stale air and turn around and walk back out. The more reductions businesses make to generating a genuine positive experience for its customer the more they will see profits drop.

I feel I’m a prime example. So, what’s going on at Macy’s..oh basically the same thing even worse since it was the cheap yet charming Meier & Frank? Oh wait I know… better yet, I’d love to check out and spend my money at Mabel and Zora.. love that place!
