Tis November and according to some, means just #’s of shopping days until Christmas!
I still cannot get over it’s November already!
Ma & Pa are heading to Grand Cayman for some days before Thanks giving. They have a time share. I’m still questioning the Benefit - cost of the time shares.. but that’s just me. ![]()
One of my MBA colleagues is heading to an all inclusive resort in Cancun, Mexico- I so envy her.
My sister is heading to Hawaii (Honolulu) for the week of Thanksgiving with the kids which will be wonderful for her! Turquoise green waters, 70 degree weather, fish as bright as a neon sun and tropical storms as refreshing as the dew on a spring morning. Ahhhh….
The last day of my internship is Nov. 15th, my last project is conducting research on online giving marketing campaigns, which is proving very interesting. I’m doing a survey on how individuals in the Foundation conduct 2-way communications. I asked for an estimated % of time they spend the following in communicating to their strategic partners:
Face 2 face, Telephone, Regular mail, e-mail and “other” which could be online chat, but this is a pretty traditional, non-progressive institution so I doubt there is any online chatting going on. Unless it’s me and Katrina, who is their Graphic Designer and adorable to boot. She’s single, brilliant and one of the most friendliest people I have ever met. Feel free to respond to this blog if you want to learn more
(Yes, I would love to matchmake her up with someone special)
It’s interesting to see the relative positions in the Foundation and how they conduct communication with strategic partners. A HUGE percentage is still face 2 face and regular mail. It’s incredibly interesting. Which tells me that an Online giving campaign and an “opt in” e-mail distribution channel isn’t as of primary importance as conducting on-site visits and regular mail paper newsletters.
It’s all a learning. Fascinating really. While the world around us promotes the commodity of technology, we still have individuals in the world conducting business in relatively old-fashioned and non-conforming ways, sending physical letters and stopping at the University. Basically, a large % of major gifts comes from folks that have been retired for a decade + and are mostly comfortable face 2 face, over the phone or receiving personal update letters. However, I realize there is danger in generalizing because really I cannot generalize since my grandpa was enamored with DOS and had a fully functioning computer at 72 in 1998, he conducted numerous business transactions using DOS OS. Although he was a scientist and genius. Most of all, it really depends on the individuals comfort level.
Switching Gears!
This week, I got to enjoy a most amazing feast with Miranda at Vita Cafe on Tuesday, after our adventure to Ikea. It’s a must do. Actually, it’s an imperative do. They are a veggie friendly place but still offer totally free range, hormone free burgers. At least 1 percentage of their revenue per meal goes to charity. They have a fabulous wine that is organic, biodynamic and just plain delicious. We both had a cup of their Thai coconut soup with their bread. It was to die for.
They also have Wolaver’s Brown on tap, so I’m DEFINITELY dragging Ryan!
Well, Happy November. May no monsters be lurking in your closets or under your bed. If there are, just tell them Halloween is over and to come back next year!
The monster in me is enthralled in devouring all the extra Halloween candy I obviously did not need to buy, since we had at most about 10 Trick-or-treaters.
Either way, Happy November! ![]()
