Last days of summer…..

glasses_on_calendar.jpgToday is the last day of September. I almost cannot believe how the summer flew by. It’s definitely a stay at home snuggled on the couch under a blanket with a good book day. The rain is a foreshadow of the fall that lay before us. I love fall. I love the changing leaves, the rain, the crisp morning air and just the smell of fall. I think I am lamenting the last wisps of summer, but am embracing the fall with open arms.

The last week of summer met with a number of activities/ events. While squeezing in time to do all the reading I had to do in preparing myself to write the next paper I managed to still apply for about two interesting jobs. The internship is rewarding and fulfilling and with the hiring they are proposing to be doing soon, I hope I can be a strong candidate for whatever opportunity is presented.

Friday evening I spruced up my networking flair and went full board at the Samuel Johnson Scholarship awards benefit dinner happening at CU. I got to see a retiree I knew from the ubertech company I was let go from. He was impressed that I continued with my MBA and knows I will fall into something, some career that will benefit from my skills and abilities. Most of all it was affirming and reassuring. I respect him wholeheartedly and he was glowing with pride as he announced that he is a soon to be grandpa of a Christmas baby. He’ll make an awesome G-Pa.

I met numerous others from our NE neighborhood, this particular scholarship benefit brought out members of the community through the Black Parent Initiative and local churches. It was an inspiring event.

After that I had a nice respite from the shmoozing and met up with GD and Ryan at the Mash Tun. I enjoyed a very nice Pinot, for a beer centric and now cocktail centric haunt I was impressed with the fact I could get a nice glass of red wine there. To get more details you can check out Ryan’s blog.

Saturday I continued along the development of my next paper that is a case study on the cola wars. Oh the excitement. I got stuck on the last two questions and just before we left to take mass transit into town for a gathering at The Goose in honor of our friend Ty’s birthday. Nothing like great food, conversation and beer to take my mind off of the pressing issues between Coke & Pepsi in the CSD (carbonated soft drink) industry.

Today is the last day of September. I still am staring at those two questions, going over my reading material, staring, reviewing. There is a pattern here. Perhaps the trek out to visit with grandma, the in-laws and nephew will be the inspiration I need to begin the embarkment towards a thoroughly thought out and clever reply to the two questions that remain ambiguous.

However, even after the visit with family today, we will then be going to say “bon voyage” to our dear friends Miranda & Brian tonight and to wish them safe journey to Peru. How exciting!

This will be a good ending and good closure to September, so Monday will be the “Hello to October” and all the wonders of fall will be blooming.
