It’s been a week of fantastic cocktails, wine and food. I think I will be paying for this soon, although I still have a few nights out to look forward to and my figure will just have to suffer the consequences.
Wed. Met girlfriends for Happy Hour at Red Star Tavern 5th and Alder. Downtown is a right mess with the max tracks going in on 5th. Lucky for me, I just caught the 75 bus and then the Max from Hollywood and then got off at 5th and Morrison. Only to walk a block and there it was Red Star.
First I started with a Sangria while my girlfriends had more foo foo drinks. Maria’s was pink and Melissa’s was Mojito like. Unfortunately for our server, the first sangria delivered to me somehow, ended up partly on his apron and partly on the floor with the shattered glass that followed before. He kept his cool, was extremely sensitive to the situation, but recovered nicely and my delicious sangria to replace the one that ended on the floor was absolutely worth the wait.
We ordered from the Happy Hour menu, two choices had a wonderful sounding flatbread included. The first one had just olives, the second had bacon and cheese. We requested the one with bacon come to us without the bacon. Of course it came with the bacon. I said “no problem” I can eat the flatbread with just the olives and me and Maria split a salad which they accommodated by putting onto two plates. Yum!
Red Star was very eclectic. To dine there, one must have a very sophisticated palate as we saw a lot of Caviar with certain items, powdered goat cheese, anchovies..etc. Sometimes restaurants can get a little too over the top for me and this one without its delicious drinks and flatbread would have been outta my league. Although they compost about 65% of their leftovers, they only use in season produce and feature only local artisans products. It’s got what I like to see in local restaurants. FANTASTIC!
After the sangria, I enjoyed the Ten Mile blended glass of red, and then following that was a nice cheese plate, I enjoyed a glass of the Red Diamond Merlot with that as well, by far the most palatable Merlot that is out there! Then we walked up to Starbucks for a nice coffee to wash everything down before hitting the max, all three of us to get home.
Unfortunately, M&M live in Hillsboro so they had quite the trek back home, but it was a fabulous time to connect. Miss Maria is getting a new tattoo in honor of her wedding anniversary along with doing the stretch of her earlobe piercing which I find to look a bit painful, but I’m sure she’ll be able to adorn herself most exquisitely with some great jewelry.I want to take her to Gold Door on Hawthorn. I think she will love it!
Thursday, earlier, I met with an old co-worker, whom I adore. She was a mentor and support arm for me at my previous job. She helped me get to where I was at the time I was let go and I’m so glad to have been able to stay connected. It was a delight to see her and catch up.
We met at Henry’s. While I usually hate that place because it can be such a meat market and there are always the creepy people there just to shmooze or play pick up artists to people who have legs, tonight was different. I didn’t feel that desperate vibe I got when I would go there previously.
I think it’s lost the “new” place to go rep. and is finally a lot more reasonable of a place to go for a few excellent beers/ drinks and food. The beer menu is amazing. They have some great choices on tap. Enterprises Terminal Gravity ESG. Old Speckled Hen, Smithwicks, Bass, Guinness..etc. I of course started with a Blueberry Martini then had an excellent Pinot Noir. My friend had two Lemon drops. She just came from a work event too, where she had some wine, some food, in an art gallery no less and exercised a little bit of flirtyness with other attendees and had a great time, which is good, as she deserves it.
Apparently things arent’ the same there since I’ve been let go. Which is in some ways reassuring to hear. It appears that things are disjointed, people are not happy and some micromanagement is happening. God bless it, there is a reason why I was let go! Let’s seek my full potential eh?
Then Friday, Tomorrow, the plan is that I need to finish this first paper that is due, so I can get my next paper done before flying out to New York on Wed. of next week. I need to figure out what to make to bring to the the new mommy and daddy in-laws tomorrow for dinner. Hmmmm. More importantly we have SPAMALOT on Saturday! I’m so excited for that. What a week already. It’s been fabulous, I am loving my internship, loving the freedom to ride my bike to my fitness center to work out (gotta work off the happy hours & cocktails somehow) and I love meeting my extra special girlfriends for happy hour.
Applied for 4+ jobs this week. Any returns or responses on those = 0. Jobs attempted to apply for are 2= responses for help through the application process = 0 as in the stupid web interface to get your resume in for the position keeps failing so the website says something like “having technical difficulties?.. just e-mail help@soforthandsuch.com. They will return your question as soon as possible. It’s been at least 2 freakin days. Any return? No I don’t think so!. Lame… totally lame…
