I’m certainly no Grace Kelly, nor would you equate me to an intern with Steve Zissou…

The past week was filled with adventure and intrique from bruising my little toe to almost biting the dust on the streets of Lincoln City to the new world of Foundations through the internship I started last week, and this is no internship like the one’s most feared by interns around the world with Steve Zissou.

life-aquatic.jpgThose interns are more likely to be shot, while I just pose a threat to the systems and organizational procedures that are currently in place with the Foundation and have been like that for 20 + years. I am put on projects that obviously need some efficiencies attached, however, people fear change and I recognize that. I simply must approach this and the current procedures as an outside viewer looking in and pose solutions and recommendations that I recognize the foundation should adopt to help them meet their goals. Take it or leave it, I’ve done my part. This is not paid, it’s merely a learning and if I can produce a new system or new procedure that is adopted, then I’d say I should be hired. :)

grace_kelly_04.jpg The weekend started off smashingly. By that I mean by smashing my toe. :( We arrived safe and sound in Lincoln City and after a brutal stubbing of one of my little toes, I’d say it just put a small damper to the start there. We then walked and walked and I managed fine as my toe swelled and turned a nice shade of purple, I persevered on. The gorgeous weather couldn’t get me down, besides after the hike to the store, there was a delicious blizzard as my reward.

My figure took quite the toll this past week, being out Thursday, writing paper Friday, indulging in all deliciousness on Sat and downing a huge plate of fries at Mash tun, washed down by a nice brown ale and a “Great White” more like a paler ale but not hoppy or bitter, simply satisfying on Sunday, today, Monday I had to be good.

Today, I broke down and dared the entrance doors to IKEA. Just getting around on the first floor was enough, I never made it to the Showrooms. it is amazing. I think I pretty much was lost the entire time, but eventually, I gave myself a schedule and made sure I left by 5pm, well by then it was still about 1/2 hour wait to get through the line. They have a ton of great things and for awesomely cheap. It’s the perfect place for the dorm bound first year college student. Ah, I remember those years.

This week we have our Team presentations for the MBA. I’m of course the anal retentive one and scheduling our meetings, creating the powerpoint, making sure everyone is on board and equally contributing, except for that one. You know, the one who simply doesn’t respond. What is that? It’s a team effort and its an expectation to meet and contribute. Yes, I’m a little obsessive compulsive, its in my nature, but at least I get things done, I follow through and I’m reliable. Geez.

We also have an exam. Of course our proff threw it in at the last two hours of our class Sat. Lovely so we have that to look forward to. I much prefer, first thing in the morning, then I don’t fret about it the entire day and I’m not distracted. Grrr.

Planning next trek to visit dear friends S&C who were here in June. It’ll be over their anniversary weekend too (labor day weekend), so bless them for accommodating me, she’s due Sept. 25th so this will be a last hurrah before the baby is here, it’s an opportunity I couldn’t pass up! Looking forward to it. R has to double check work, but I know I’m going! :) Just have to of course finish yet another paper before flying out on Aug. 29th, return on Sept. 3rd.

I’m thrilled.
