Year of the Pig, babies, babies, babies…weddings…and its barely still Sunday
Sunday, August 5th, 2007 | General
Alright, so Natasha Bedingfield has got it right after all. Babies…babies…babies… I’m surrounded. It’s not uncommon lately to see in just a single day at least 5-7 women that are pregnant, 3 women with newborns and hear at least 10 stories from others about their kids.
I guess all the hubbub is that this is the year of the pig in the Chinese Zodiac. So I did some searching. Alot of people have eluded to the fact that this year is apparently a lucky year. The year of the pig, or boar. I also think it could be due to this year being the 2007 year and well it just seems to be the year for babies, or I’m just at that age. Yes, still under the cusp of being at less risk for getting, remaining and birthing a healthy child. If Julia Roberts can do it in her 40’s and actually other friends I have had had successful babies in their 40’s, there shouldn’t be the threat of doom upon a woman just because she is approaching 40 and has yet to birth a child.
It was amazing seeing our brand new baby nephew fresh into this world this weekend. He is gorgeous. Nick & Trav will be awesome parents, what’s more is the Vanderzanden grandparents will be more than awesome grandparents and Nick’s parents are already so involved with their other grandkids, it’s no wonder there is no doubt for Nick & Travis to have kids. The world around them is embracing this child with an overwhelming amount of love and support. It is amazing, and a priviledge that I admire wholeheartedly.
So doing a 180, I was invited to the wedding of one of my MBA colleagues. She is a special lady, no doubt. She is an incredible designer, so intelligent and managed to plan and execute the wedding plus even design and sew her own wedding dress while going to school, working full time and traveling, along with working on her research thesis. I am amazed by
how much she accomplishes in one week, let alone during this MBA program. The wedding was charming, extremely traditional in every sense, bouquet and garter toss, father , daughter dance, toasts, cake cutting feeding..you know. So it just brought me back to our wedding, and I wonder if that is how it is for everyone.
All of these amazing life milestones can be shared and compared between experiences. I must say, their cake looked amazing. I will have to blog with actual pictures from my camera, as soon as I can figure out how to reduce the size of my photos from my camera on my computer (ryan?)
At least I had two other girl MBA pals there with me. They brought their husbands, who were just angels, but I know Ryan had a ton of work to do, and honestly he would have been miserable so he opted and I concurred that he not go. It was for the better, I know it.
So, lucky Sunday evening, how does the weekend fly by so fast. I was fortunate to get my paper in at a decent hour on Saturday, with just enough time to catch the movie 1408 at Kennedy School, I actually felt like I had a Saturday. It was nice. 1408 was an excellent movie and one in which I will continue to think and mull on about, especially with the life changes happening just this weekend with the birth and marriage happening. Wow. Just another reason to reflect on the wondefullness that life can provide for us.
