The Dutch Way….

I
‘ll be traveling dutch style from now on! I’ve got my nice little hybrid Bianchi (bike) all fixed up and raring to go. No more just walking…that just takes too much time. Time is money and when you got a bike, you got dough! So it’s been approximately 7 or so years since I’ve ridden my bike, that I got passed along to me from one of the nicest paralegals I know and had the pleasure of working with.
She and her husband are voracious bike riders. Not a day, well except during winter, passes where she’s not scaling some hilltop or traversing a desert valley on her bike. She once embraced the tropical rains and encroaching humidity that is affluent in Hawaii, the big island.
The song from Mary Poppins always seems to pop in my head…”let’s go “ride a bike” (”fly a kite” is the real lyrics)” anyway, so it pretty much stops there as I don’t think I’ll be riding a bike up where the air is bright nor will I be soaring.
I keep encouraging Ry to get his bike tuned up so we can take bikerides together.
Or at least bike rides to a pub somewhere, usually that’s a lot more motivating.
Anyway, I’m happy to have my bike to carry me. It’s a tad nerve wracking, riding down Fremont or 42nd, so I immediately try to ride in one more street where it’s not so hectic. I don’t know how those bike commuters do it. I keep wanting to check a rear-view mirror. After reading GD blog in this story, it’s really quite frightening how much power people have behind a car next to a person on a bike. I’m going to keep that in mind and just be as careful and cautious as possible. I hope to one day feel confident enough to ride into downtown, but I’m afraid I still need a lot of practice.
Funny, I don’t think I ever named my bike. I used to name everthing. My plants, my cars, school notebooks, journals.. but somehow I seemed to have missed this. I think it’s definitely a girl name, hmmm I think something sexy and confident is in order, how else am I going to be sure to be noticed. Roxanne. Yeah I like that. Sting made her a legend and now that legend can live through as my bike.
Roxanne, The sexiest bike in town, and one where none of her will be sold to the night.
I just need to paint her Red!

Cool! We bought a vintage bike for my b-day last year. It is not getting much use. First it is really scary riding here. Second, we live on a really large hill, 3rd it is really scary riding bikes here. Plus, I’m not suppose to in my 3rd trimester. Oh, yeah, and the heat…
Maybe if we move back.
Make sure to stretch before and after, especially the calves.
Can you come out in September??
Hey there!
Vintage bikes are awesome!
You’ll be able to use it more when you move back, for sure!
And, I too would suggest not riding while you are in your 3rd tri-mester, for one it certainly would not be comfortable, at all, considering all the bodily stuff you are going through right now, I think you should get off your feet more!
I would love to still come in September or late August. It all depends on my next class schedule. I will also be starting an Internship at Concordia University in August, but it won’t be full time. I’m sure I could work something out.
I’ll e-mail you to discuss dates.
