Case of the Mondays….

ada-green.jpgYup, I definitely have a case of the Mondays. Tired, kinda moody, grumpy…but as usual looking at “The Bright Side of Life”.

Lucky recipient of Ryan’s cold, I’m nasally congested and head achey. Therefore unable to hit the gym today. Although I’m still thinking about it, possibly later today. The weather looks to be just gorgeous. Yesterday I was inspired. Cleaning up the debris from our amazing tree out front, I found that we need some more flowers in our yards, both front and back. I also bought my first ever tomato plant and am inspired to get a big box to put in the area just south of the house in front and plant more tomatoes, I am dying to grow my own blueberries too. I have to say Snooks has been inspiring. With all the stuff they are doing with their yard and picking up blueberry bushes, I want to do that too. :) So upon feeling a bit more energized I’ll have to do some searching and running around to get a raised bed, soil and more plants to begin a little garden. I just hope that that area just south will get enough sun. It might get too much shade from the big tree, bit I’ve noticed that it gets all the morning sun and some afternoon. I have some green thumb in my blood as both my grandparents were gardeners, growing everything from strawberries to corn and chard. My grandpa Bromley especially was the most amazing gardener. He was a HUGE proponent of garlic. Golly, he lived to 85 I think? Which is pretty amazing. He was the most patient and kind person I had ever known. So, yes I’m inspired and hope to get something going soon, I don’t have much time. It’s about growing season.

What I do know is that I want some geraniums and clematis. Reading some of my gardening books to get an idea of what blooms over the year. Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. Hard to believe there are winter plants out there. Most of those can withstand up to 15F so as long as it doesn’t fall below that they are good. I’m going to look into those too.

Anyway. Back to my case of the Mondays. I’ve been working on my research thesis all morning. Calling to follow up on my survey, expanding my search. Basically I’m measuring the value of philanthropy of companies with a presence in Oregon. I didn’t think it would be as hard as it is. I think my faulty lies in phone calling. Leaving messages and letting it sit, same with sending e-mails. I follow up a second time even, with no response. I’m trying not to take it personally, but how hard is it to hit the reply button. Just a simple yes to participating.. or no to participating. I’ve been referred to companies’ annual reports, which is just thrilling. It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack of financials that have no relevancy to philanthropy, it’s usually tucked somewhere in corporate governance or social respononsibility, which could be at the end or middle of the report. Time consumer, I tell you.

I’m unfortunately coming up to the end of this semester. My blank cells in my research report spreadsheet only leads me to believe I’m not going to have all the data I need to even start a paper. Plus the Research writing class isn’t until fall semester so I would have no idea what to really generate with my report, until I have that class. So the Dean has allowed me to take an incomplete on it this for Spring, finishing up my data over summer, which may be tough as a lot of people take vacations over summer, but I hope to get to all the companies on my list by end of May. I hope! It’s like pulling teeth to get people to respond though. Almost pushing me to going to the company in person and demanding a response!
