The Surreal Life

susans-deck.jpgIt’s Friday and its 3:30pm. So, sitting here in front of my laptop, windows all open and fresh air flowing through the house, trying not to feel too guilty for having this time to sit and enjoy the moment, but feeling the need to be checking e-mail every minute.

See, I FINALLY got my research thesis survey done and deployed to about 10 local businesses. This is the pilot. If people respond easily, GREAT. If people respond confused or with clarifying questions, I know there will be more work to do to clean up the survey. But I MUST say it was a relief to get it out. I’m just a month + behind schedule with it and I can only hope that those respondents are relatively timely.

Officially applied for the Community Director Position I learned about last week. This is a one person managed non-profit that organizes volunteer programs and giving strategies for small local businesses. How incredibly fitting for me! I’m really thrilled at the opportunity plus I’d be able to use some MBA stuff I’ve been learning, plus learn more about management of non-profits. We shall see. They want to hire at latest by April 20th and start training most likely in May, which will at least provide for some extra sloughing time, although I’m not good with sloughing.
R is a good sport although I’m feeling increased envy from him with me having the time to do as I choose.

This week has not been without its filled days. I’m finding walking to the Bus stop with R a nice way to connect before the day. While I go to the Gym he hops the bus to work. I spend about 90 minutes there then walk home. Turn on laptop and focus on the day’s to do list. Which has been usually, Finish Research Thesis Survey, homework, job hunt, think about what job would appeal to me. Fix closet so that I may hang up my clothes once again. Yes the plastic holders of the bar that holds my clothes tore through. So I may need to downsize, just a bit. :) Pot some flowers, pull some weeds, do laundry, clean house…. well anyway, you get the picture.

What I did do this week for enjoyment was watch Dreamgirls with Miranda at Laurelhurst Theatre. Amazing movie, Jennifer Hudson was incredible.

Dropped off tax documents to our tax guy. Learned we will owe quite a bit this year. Silly unemployment tax.

Met friends for Happy Hour at Stanfords on Wed.

Met a friend for Happy Hour at Solo in the Pearl. Surprise it was first Thursday so parking was an adventure. Bartender bought us both drinks, I didn’t finish mine, it was a cucumber and gin martini.. quite a combo and one that was great with the first 3-4 sips, then lost its appeal. Don’t know what it was but I left 1/2 in the glass and I was worried about offending him, but I figured I most likely will never see that person again, let alone would he remember me if he did, so I got over it.

However, I drove my friend back to her apartment in Ione Plaza at PSU of all places, wow what a changed neighborhood that is. Every parking spot in the vicinity was taken and she really, really wanted me to come up and see her place, her and her man bought a condo so it would be a lost opportunity if not taken advantage of today. So I recommended we be quick and I parked illegally. Yes, their place was SPECTACULAR. The views of the West Hills, PSU and all along the Southwest part of Portland was just glorious. Oh and the view of my car and uh oh it looks like there is a security car next to mine. Oh lovely. We bolted downstairs and I was blessed with a $70 parking ticket.

Well, this will be a view I will certainly never forget. My friend was mortified and offered to help pay half so that was nice of her.

Anyway, so there is my week so far. Lots done, still lots to do, but I am enjoying the freedom I have been blessed with.
