Last Days of Work COUNTDOWN…

One week over. Now just one more week to go and I’m keeping my eyes on that second hand. I’ve come to terms with the situation and have decided to leave the company entirely. Plus try, at least try to take some time off, which is especially hard for me to grasp, but I have to say with making that decision, I have noticed my stress level and anxiety dissipate tremendously which is nice, however, in the light of this decision comes the breakup with my laptop. The other me an extenuation of myself which is my laptop has awoke some fret in me since my life is pretty much contained on my laptop. I have a 6 gig jump drive which I’ve put everything on, but still I must have a new laptop. For school especially and one that I can accomodate to naturally.
So, I have put Ryan to the task of finding me a proper laptop. So far it looks like the macbook is winning, but it’s a tough race as HP has a notebook almost mirror to my current one I think it’s called the Lenovo. So the plan is to shop today for a new one. We’ll see how it goes. It needs to happen Toute suite as I have homework and papers and my research thesis to still do whilst taking this hiatus.
As you readers know I do struggle with idle time. So with that comes my list of things that I would LIKE to accomplish whilst living leisurely. Although, I have spent this past week enjoying life more and letting work go. Delegating and handing off my responsibilities and program management check lists to my colleagues. Let’s just do a week re-cap.
Monday - Delightful Happy Hour with four of my dearest colleagues who I appreciate so much at Stanford’s of all places but that’s what you get in the “burbs”. They start their happy hours at 3:00, so we were spot on with a nice Red Diamond , Merlot bottle of wine corked and pouring not less then by 3:45. How good is that. The food was good too. I got flowers. It was sweet, a good time. I will miss these colleagues exponentially.
Tuesday - Enjoyed a very nice happy hour with dearest Miranda. Went to Imbibe on Hawthorn. Oh my gosh, fantastic happy hour menu and fabulous drinks. I enjoyed a very strong caesar salad and then spring rolls, I know wierd combination, but delicious. Miranda had their asian salad and tofu sandwhich. We both had a Champagne cocktail and I had a scrumptious martini that I know had Kahlua. Yummy. Then we popped over to Miranda’s for a game of Quiddler. Which is my new favorite game. Great fun. Thanks, Miranda.
Wednesday - Caught up with an old acquaintance who is really nice and too has a fondness of wine, so we met at Everyday Wine for dinner to share wine, stories and cheese. I really love that place. It is the most laid back, unpretentous and unassuming wine bar I have ever been to. The owner is delightful and allows dogs. With that they can’t serve food but visitors can bring their own food in. Then you pick a bottle and you can have one glass or buy the bottle and take it home. What a delightful idea. So I stopped at St. Honore Bakery for a nice baguette, they sliced the baguette for me too, which was nice. Then stopped at Steve’s Cheese and picked up some Tuada, Brie and Crottin. To bring to Everyday wine for us to share. Yum. It was fun!
Thursday - Wanted to go see a movie at Laurelshurst with Miranda as her Beau works there. HOWEVER, I had the alarming realization that, Crap I have homework due on Monday. I need to read a chapter in Managerial Finance and answer 3 problems which is really answering more like 15 problems as each question encomapsses 3-5 parts. Yikes. So I cancelled. Went straight home and started in on the reading. All the while trying to decide which bottle of wine from my collection I should open after I at least answer one question and finish my reading. Golly, I think I might have a problem.
Friday - Enjoyed a very nice lunch at The Old Spaghetti Factory with my Volunteer steering committee that I lead. Everyone was so touching and so sweet. I wrote thank you cards for all of them the Thursday night, after homework and after a glass of wine. Only because everyone has and is special and dear to me. I will miss them. One of them gave me a cool, Thunder Egg and told me if it wasn’t for me encouraging them and supporting them in volunteering they would have just left the company. It truly touched me and made me realize just how much of an impact a person can make in other’s lives.
Then home to prepare a fondue feast for friends one of whom has battled the unemployment sector but now is doing better and will be taking off to Mexico to see friends get married. I’m trying to slim down the number of people at my house at any one time so please note that if you were not invited it’s not because I don’t love you it’s just I don’t have a big enough dining room table… yet.
That was for Snooks & GD, as I know how much they love the fondue…. next time. I promise. ![]()

Behold, the power of fondue.
Y’know, not that we’ve run into each other much at the Cube Farm lately, but I’m going to miss that. Still, I hope your new adventure starts soon and is a marvelous success! We’ll see you guys soon, I imagine.
And I hope your new laptop kicks ass! ![]()
