Weekend Adventures…..

Friday - Enjoyed a nice evening with some fabulous girls to celebrate our soon to be hitched friend Suj. The girls met up at Mint for Happy Hour, I had never been there and was looking forward to checking it out. They had a marvelous martini menu, I started with the Hazel, that was absolutely delicious, with espresso beans as garnish. A nice vanilla- hazelnut flavor. We shared the Hummus. Delicious! While Suj opened her shower gifts, I had a salad and a nice glass of Malbec, they have a pretty good wine menu too. Suj had calamari with the others having burgers. Good drinks and good food. Ambiance in the place was nice. A bit classier than anticipated, but definitely fun with girls.
Then to a new Tiki Bar, cannot remember the name I think it was the Tiki Hatch? However it was packed and apparently had an upleasant odor so we continued in the rain on up Broadway. Up to Sweet Basil Thai and stopped in the Basil bar, well the place was tiny and already patrons had made their spots known, so with no place for us, we proceeded further once again up Broadway.
Finally, we were just about drenched, made it to Arabian Breeze where it wasn’t busy at all. When we first arrived we were all feeling quite peckish and ordered, well most of us ordered some dish that sounded delish and we planned to share, so they brought out the delicious bread and the hummus I ordered. But then we waited and waited, the yawns got more prominent and at about the time our waitress came out to ask if we were doing okay we were all a bit stunned as we hadn’t received our order yet, well by the time we were ready for bed the owner came up and apologized profusely. Apparently our server “lost part of our ticket”, I could go on about this, but it was just bizarre how it happened and they proceeded to take our order again and we were all pretty much done so we agreed to not order and get wrapped up and ready for the rain soaking journey ahead to home.
The owner was just mortified he was so sorry he said that because of the mishap everything we got was on the house. We tried to reassure him as much as possible, but in the end it was their loss and the waitress did seem a bit flaky. We all walked out with different feelings, some felt sorry for our server, we still did leave some $’s on the table, for as we were leaving the owner was definitely having a relatively loud stern discussion at our server and “D” said this could be an ongoing problem.
Well, they weren’t busy and because of the mishap they did lose potential sales on food and thus lost revenue and who knows because of this we could choose not to patron the restaurant again, which is certainly not the case at all their food is scrumptious, either way the evening ended oddly, I only hope Suj had a good time.
I proceeded to go home as it was empty with Ryan being up in Zig Zag with the boys, I curled up with kitty and closed the evening with a few episodes of Vicar of Dibley..a show that always puts a smile on my face.
Saturday – Not terribly exciting. Had to work on my next paper for school which was on the BMW Z3 roadster launch which was featured in the Bond film Goldeneye. Rivetting.
Welcomed Ryan home from quite an adventurous Friday and Saturday. We talked about going out, but Ryan was pretty sore from the snowboarding and at any moment could pass out, so I opened a bottle of my most favorite of red wines of all time that I had been sort of saving for a special occasion. I got the bottle as a gift and it is full of divine luxury, it’s a Chateau-neuf-du-Pape…it’s so smooth and perfectly balanced, easy to drink with cheese and chocolate. Divine! So, we enjoyed some movies and I enjoyed my wine. We watched Orange County with Tom Hanks son and Jack Black. It was really quite funny, I enjoyed it a lot and actually found some profound messaging in there…it’s that Jack Black, he just cracks me up. Then we watched Beowulf and Grendel which is a story I read when I was young about a hero who defeats a terrorizing entity that haunts a community and people live in fear of its wrath until the hero comes to save them. It was pretty well done, the scenery incredible, but the actress who playes the “witch” or sorceress was less than convincing. Then some more of Little Britian… for those of you with weak stomachs, beware this series is a little more graphic and much racier than the first series, so viewers, don’t say I didn’t warn ya.
Sunday – Got to meet a new connection from work who also lives on Alberta for breakfast at Helser’s which was delicious. The coffee was excellent and the dish I chose which was a pear and havarti dish with egg and crumpet and fruit and crème fraiche… delicious.
After breakfast we shopped along Alberta, stopping at some favorite stores and boutiques, the usual Garnish & Mabel and Zora and Ella’s, Shoe Shangri-La… a few I had not been into before yet were Imp which was just delightfully fun store with all sorts of wonderful art pieces and original creations, definitely a place to check out.
One theme that kept presenting itself to me was, “A year from now you won’t remember what you were worried about”, I saw this on the back of this “fortune” game which was like this 2×2 wood box with rolled up messages in these peg holes. You poke a peg through one of the holes and a little ortune comes out. Kind of like the fortune’s in cookies but you don’t have to eat a cookie.. although I love fortune cookies…anyway It’s really cute the owner let us play and so I poked out that same saying. Interesting.
I think my worry about my next paper for class was manifesting itself. Anyway, it was a fun time and I learned a lot from my new friend! Then home, to finish up my class paper and actually get some yard work done. What a Weekend.
In closing the day out we watched “Thank You for Smoking” which was actually pretty good, great depiction of the lobbiers’ life. It’s all about the crafting of the message, just be careful who you get too close to.
phew!
