Eight hour Finance Class, Cocktail dress, Company holiday Party, copious amounts of wine….. well you get the picture.

3d_champaign.gifAfter 8 hours of finance class, I ran home to gussy myself up for the evening ahead. As with probably most wives we want to make the best impression we can at our husbands company holiday party. Unfortunately, I was probably the most embarrassing. So  here’s just another check next to, my more mortifying moments. First in my defense, my alcohol tolerance has plummetted. I’m Irish, yes, but the usual glass of wine with dinner each evening has turned into more like, “Oh I have a night off of school, let’s crack open bottle and have a glass or two”. Maybe twice a week. But that is it. So with the well of champagne and continuous replenishment of Pinot in my wine glass, I got myself into a wee bit of trouble and what is worse it was at my husband’s company’s holiday party which was absolutely brilliant.

I was incredibly envious as to the tremendous outpouring of generosity and appreciation from the co-workers and CEO of this company along with the parting gifts to all of the guests of the employees received just for coming. It was the  icing on the cake.

All taking place in a private room with a private bar at the Paragon Restaurant. We got taxi vouchers which was just another reflection to the generosity of the company. So of course that meant no holds bard in the consumption of the bubblies and vino.

So after, one glass of champagne and oh potentially 3-4 glasses of wine, since I could never tell when I finished a glass. The power went out. Made it for an exciting evening. Dressed in candelight, I had a magnificent conversation with the people we were sitting with at our table. I got a salad and a piece of bread, not enough to soak up the wine I so swiftly consumed. Eventually the power went back on. My heart went out to the servers, their stress was most evident since the main course was delayed and it was a matter of creative thinking in what to do instead. I had the vegetarian pasta which was absolutely divine. Wild mushrooms in a white wine sauce. Still my wine glass kept getting filled and I continued to enjoy it.

Secret santa gifts were handed out to each of the co-workers, that really livened up the party too. Then on to dessert. Of course I ordered both choices on the menu and proceeded to just about eat all of them. One was a chocolate truffle with raspberry sauce and the other pumpkin cheesecake. Oh to die for. What I should have done was ordered some coffee to try to counteract the, oh.. I would say by now the gallon, of wine I consumed.

Then the post party fun. Well, here’s where the most memorable moments start. Lost my footing, again in my defense I was wearing heels, which I most never wear. So Ryan helped my up. To my utter embarrassment. Then outside, the guys were smoking cigars and I think some of the wives were too. So me and my vociferous self were happy to keep gabbing loudly about this company and the “most admired companies” award. It was all with good and positive intention. Just a little overprojected and well embarrassing to R.

So here’s my sincerest apology to my husband, if this is the last work function he takes me to, I completely understand.

At least I knew it was time to be cut off as we went to a very European like bar, all dressed in white and clean lines, very discoteque, and I had water.

Hopefully, no one will hold it against R, as his wife fell as an innocent victim to those copious and delicious inebriating libations.

I love you R. :)

You’re one of the more charming people on the planet, so by the time things got goofy I’m sure everyone was well under your spell. No worries.

At least you didn’t spill red wine on the bride. Now that’s embarassing!

I’m sure it all went completely un-noticed :) Oddly enough, Eileen ‘lost her footing’ at the Christmas party last year too, and she also claimed it was her heels, so you’re not alone there. Almost makes me want to start wearing heels, so when I’m floundering around I can blame it on them … :)
