Gwen Stefani. While I was never a huge No Doubt fan, nor have I become a Huge Gwen Stefani fan, I still like a few of her ditties, One especially is the “It’s my Life” by Talk Talk that she did a cover of and I love “south Side” with Moby, I’m troubled by the latest song I heard on the Chris Moyle’s Show. R’s been able to craftily record the BBC morning show and download it onto my ipod to entertain me on my commute into work. I Love it, what’s more is some of the songs he plays to appease the BBC. Well, this one took the cake with a sound clip from “Sound of Music” of all things.. it’s where Julie Andrews and the kids are performing the puppet show and it’s the yodeling part if you follow me. Anyway, I couldn’t believe this song opened with the yodeling. I try to spell it out, “Yodel-a-ee hoe” It’s really quite silly but once you get that in your head, for all the years I watched “The Sound of Music” religiously, well it’s hard to get it out. So now Gwen has so craftily put this little clip in her song, and well I just have to say it’s a little disapointing when artists have to steal from original music scores to help them create their own. Well if you are interested it’s called “Wind it Up” With Gwen yodeling in the beginning and middle and just about the end of it. If you are like me you’ll walk away with that yodeling in your head “Yo-ho ladle oh lay ee ho” or however you might spell, that’s a toughie! :)

So odd, I’ve been hearing the song now for a week or two on BBC 1, and while it first struck me as just bizzare, it’s almost growing on me. I wouldn’t exactly say I like it, it is a bit odd, and quirky, but it’s also kind of interesting. I didn’t know about the sample from Sound of Music, not that I’m opposed to sampling, but it is a pretty prominent part of the song here.

We saw Gwen on SNL the other night and she performed that one. It wasn’t intolerable. I wish No Doubt would go back to ska-influenced pop, meself, but then I liked “Hella Good” and some of their other stuff too.

Damn those catchy hooks!
