The Tropical Hibiscus “Queen of the Tropics”
Thursday, August 31st, 2006 | Garden
We are certainly far from any kind of “tropical” environment, however, they seem to be relishing in our backyard just fine. Here is a picture of our Hibiscus happily blooming.
It gives me such pleasure to see these saucer like flowers blossom out of our untilled and unfertalized backyard. It’s been an amazing adventure seeing all the blooming flowers and plants and trees in our backyard. It’s a definite reward at the end of the day, to see a garden grow. R’s been extremely proud of his pepper plants that he calls his “babies”. Further information on the Hibiscus is available in The Tropical Hibiscus Handbook available thru the American Hibiscus Society. Some types hibiscus have been used to make dyes and others have been used as food. Fascinating.

Beautiful shot there. It’s really fascinating the stuff you guys have managed to have flourish in your backyard.
Tell me about it.
I thinkg that nice break from the sun with a few drops of rain helped tremendously.
Oh and thanks. ![]()
I had a reply, but the website ate it. It was something about how pretty our own hibiscuseseses (hibiscii?) are, and how said beauty hypnotizes us in such a way as to enable the squirrels to steal our wallets while we stare at the flowers. Because I believe it’s a conspiracy between the squirrels and the flowers. And now I think this website is in on the conspiracy, because it conspires to eat my comments that threaten to EXPOSE the conspiracy. This is a dangerous age we live in.

Snooks: yeah, the server is somehow doing something weird for this URL. Kelly yesterday mentioned that for a period she couldn’t get to this address but could get to other circusgeek addresses. I just experienced something very similar. No idea why it’s being so odd. The configs seems correct. Not sure if that’s what you saw happening or not but I thought I’d mention it.
Kelly: nice photo. ![]()
Thanks… again it’s a conspiracy, there’s no doubt.

I think you should feature the flower in some sort of a tropical drink. That’s right, at the height of its beauty just PLUCK IT from its stem.
David, I thought you were on an internet vacation. Couldn’t stand not being connected huh??

Grand Idea. I see it now, huge martini glasses with a hibiscus dangling out the top. Now these would be serious drinks!
I like it.
